October 04, 2012  Nicole Dom Hemingway Emilia Clarke Movies New Role

Demian Bichir and Emilia Clarke have joined the cast of Richard Shepard’s “Dom Hemingway.”

The pair join Jude Law and Richard E. Grant in the film about a safecracker (Law), released from prison, who’s looking to collect what he’s owed.

Mexican actor Bichir, who received an Academy Award nomination for last year’s “A Better Life,” will play Law’s former crime boss. British actress Clarke, best known for her leading role in HBO skein “Game of Thrones,” is set as Law’s daughter.

Also joining the cast are British actor Jumayn Hunter and Romanian actress Madalina Ghenea.

Produced by Jeremy Thomas’ Recorded Picture Company, alongside BBC Films, CinemaNX/Isle of Man Film, Pinewood Films and Lionsgate, “Dom Hemingway” marks Shepard’s first feature since 2007’s “The Hunting Party.” The film starts lensing Oct. 15 in the south of France.

October 03, 2012  Nicole Emilia Clarke New Role

According to Deadline, Emilia is in the running for a role in the Captain America sequel.

You know that Marvel Studios is moving forward with a superhero movie when there is a bake-off of young talent for key roles. Marvel is readying Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo have a short list of five hot actresses for a significant new role.

Not sure the character, but evidently it’s a love interest for Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). I’m told that Game of ThronesEmilia Clarke, Downton Abbey‘s Jessica Brown Findlay, Warm Bodies‘ Teresa Palmer, Knight Of Cups‘ Imogen Poots and The Five Year Engagement‘s Alison Brie are testing for it. I’m also hearing that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will be in the mix on this film. Marvel cleverly signs these actors on for as many as nine options, which gives them the latitude to cross pollinate the films with multiple superheroes. At first this was annoyance to talent and their dealmakers–Marvel is known for being stingy–but The Avengers worked so well that it’s a career coup to be in the mix on Marvel movies because most of them turn out so well. And it certainly works for the audience.

Emilia starred is a short movie called Shackled, an atmospheric psychological thriller set in a 1950s circus in Louisiana. Some stills from the film have been added to the gallery (thanks to Sarks for the heads up!) and you can read more infos about it in their Facebook Page.

November 09, 2011  Mette Emilia Clarke New Role

Emilia Clarke is feeling the power of HBO’s Game of Thrones as the UK actress enters talks to play the female lead in Antonio Negret’s Overdrive, which was written by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, the word-masters behind Wanted and 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen on Season 1 of Game of Thrones, has a resume that’s not exactly overflowing with previous work, but everyone has to start somewhere and Thrones isn’t a bad launch-pad to use when getting the attention of studios. Overdrive sounds like it will be a decent follow-up punch, letting Clarke rub shoulders with a couple of guys that have their own experiences working in popular franchises. While Clarke is still in negotiations, Karl Urban (Star Trek, Dredd) and Ben Barnes (Chronicles of Narnia) have already signed on for the film that revolves around two brothers that steal cars in the south of France.

There are no details at this time about the role Clarke is being considered for, but as a female lead, we’re probably looking at the slightly clichéd premise of her being the girl in love with both brothers. Of course, she could just as easily be the boss of the car-theft ring. Wouldn’t that be an original twist?

Filming is expected to begin on Overdrive on October 29th in Marseilles so I’d say Clarke is probably guaranteed the role unless the studio already has a back-up on stand-by.
