Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, who plays the character Daenerys Targaryen in the hit HBO fantasy television series, has revealed how she won her role on the show. Emilia admitted that it was actually fairly simply and all she really did was audition.

Clarke explained, “My goodness, how I became involved with the show… auditioned!? That’s pretty much it. Yeah my agent called with the audition, I went in and by the time I’d got the second audition I’d read the book and was an official fan and a geek! I was just crazy in love with it.”

She added, “So happily by the time I got to L.A. for the screen tests they said yes. It really wasn’t very long it was probably over about a month I think. Yeah it was two auditions in London and the screen test in L.A. and that was it.”

Emilia Clarke also admitted that, if she was not working as one of the stars of Game of Thrones, she would probably still be working one of her three jobs, either in a bar, at a call centre or working as a waitress. However, she would still be pursuing her dream of becoming an actress.

Game of Thrones continues on HBO every Sunday before airing in the UK on Sky Atlantic on Mondays.

Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke has been talking about the first season of the hit HBO show and what she found the most memorable about it. Emilia also discussed how being a part of the Game of Thrones series has changed her life.

Clarke explained, “There are loads but I think some of the most memorable ones was episode 10. All the things sort of came to fruition, that was possibly the biggest moment I think.” Emilia then went on to reveal how her life has changed.

She added, “Completely. Upside down, inside out, totally transformed it, yeah. I never thought I would be here, doing this, not only with a company that I love so much – HBO has kind of always produced the best television around – but for a character in a book that I just care about so deeply, so it’s just become a dream come true.”
Emilia continued, “You can take the magic away and it stands alone as a compelling drama with complex characters and it’s got themes running through it that everybody can relate to. Family, jealousy, rivalry and just lots of things that people can relate to basically. Then you put the magic on top of it and it just makes it something even more special.”

A FRUIT and veg stall at Bolton Market was transformed into a 1990s Manchester flower stall to film scenes for a new com- ing-of-age drama set in the city.

Spike Island, featuring Elliott Tittensor, of Shameless fame, and Emilia Clarke, who starred in Game of Thrones, is about a group of Stone Roses fans from Manchester, determined to see their heroes on stage. The film crew has been in Bolton all week recording scenes in back streets as well as driving around the town in a 1990s bus.

And yesterday they were at Bolton’s award- winning market.

Director Mat White- cross said: “So far, for us it has been brilliant. You wouldn’t think of a film set 20 years ago as a peri- od film, but it is. We have found some incredible locations around Bolton and Greater Manchester that match what we’re look- ing for. You never know what it will be like when a rel- atively large film crew turns up somewhere like this but the market has really taken us in.”

Close to 30,000 fans watched the legendary concert in Cheshire in May, 1990. The film fol- lows a group of young council estate hopefuls in an unsigned band and is written by actor Chris Coghill, who played Happy Mondays dancer Bez in 24 Hour Party Peo- ple.

The Spike Island con- cert came to be known as the “baggy Woodstock” and came as the Madch- ester scene was at its height.

The scenes shot at Bolton Market featured Elliott as one of the group of Stone Roses fans and Emilia as the object of his affections.

Spike Island has been jointly funded by the BBC, the British Film Institute, Bankside and the band Coldplay

When 24-year-old Emilia Clarke found out she’d been cast in HBO’s cult fantasy hit Game of Thrones, she was thrilled…and a little petrified. “It was like, Great, I’m getting my dream job! Wait a second—I have to have my boobs out all the time?” says the British actress about her oft-nude character, Daenerys Targaryen, an exiled princess who’s vying for control of a warring world. Now Clarke’s the pinup girl for fantasy nerds everywhere. “My hair is brown, and Daenerys is a blond, so that allows me to hide!” Clarke says. Game of Thrones’ first season was capped by a thrilling final scene in which Daenerys emerged from ashes, breast-feeding one of her three baby dragons (yes, it was as crazy and fabulous as it sounds). “The dragons were CGI, so I was just butt naked on a cliff, with a brightly colored toy in one hand and dots painted all over me. I had to use my imagination for that one.”

The show returns April 1, and great news: “In season two, I get to wear clothes!” says Clarke. “I’m super happy.”
