THE NEW PAPER – She has captured the hearts of countless fanboys as Daenerys Targaryen, the fearless, merciful queen who inspires devotion in her subjects and commands armies and dragons alike, in the hit TV series Game of Thrones.

Yet, in real life, British actress Emilia Clarke claims she hasn’t encountered any of them – not even suitors.

During a sit-down interview with M at The London West Hollywood hotel back in March, the 28-year-old, who is currently single, appeared amused when asked about her male fans all over the world.

The bubbly and vivacious wide-eyed beauty said: “People always say this to me, but I’m like, ‘Where are they?’.” She broke into loud laughter before continuing: “Any attractive ones? 701 is my room number.”

Clarke’s popularity is set to soar with her first big movie lead role of Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys, which opens here on June 25.

Dressed in a chiffon top and a midi skirt and flaunting a head full of luscious brunette locks, Clarke looked nothing like the platinum blonde “Mother of Dragons” that viewers are used to seeing on their small screens. In person, the petite 1.57m star is animated and chatty and comes across as a friendly girl next door. And that disparity in her appearance on and off the screen is something she is thankful for.

Clarke said: “I am very lucky that I look different from my character, so I don’t get stopped very much, which is brilliant. I still live in a quiet area of London.” She added jokingly: “I am just hiding, hiding in a pub in London.”

Even though Game Of Thrones continues to attract a wide international fan base and record-breaking viewership since it premiered in 2011, Clarke still feels amazed when other celebrities tell her that they watch the show.

“(US actor) Channing Tatum came up to me and told me he is a fan of Game Of Thrones. That was a big moment,” she said. “I was like, ‘Excuse me for a moment while I pass out, oh my God.’ It’s like, ‘What the… You know my name? That’s amazing.”

She talks to M about taking on the iconic role in the fifth instalment of the Terminator series, working with Arnold Schwarzenegger and how she feels when netizens think her bum looks “too big” in Game of Thrones. (source)

Peter and Emilia for EW

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY – She’s commanded armies and dragons. She’s sparred with slave masters and horse lords. But what Emilia Clarke had to do on the Game of Thrones set last October left her unusually nervous: Sit and have a polite conversation. Sound easy? Not when the other actor is Clarke’s Emmy-winning co-star Peter Dinklage. This was the first time in the show’s five-year history that the two stars have ever shared a scene. Watching their iconic meetup was like witnessing a charmingly awkward first date as the two actors briefly struggled to find their conversational rhythm—complete with flubbed lines, accidentally spilled cups, and more than the usual number of takes as they worked their way through several pages of intricately composed dialogue.

“I’m like: ‘Oh my goodness, I’m talking to that dude on my telly,’” Clarke said. “I’m nervous. Butterflies. This is huge.”

Indeed: Having Dinklage’s Tyrion Lannister meet Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen this season delighted fans, who were universally enthusiastic (for once!) about the showrunners making a narrative move not yet found in George R.R. Martin’s novels. The result was the most anticipated quite-drink chat since Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro got some coffee in Heat. A few minutes after the duo nailed that crucial scene, we talked to the actors about their newfound on-screen partnership.

SUNDAYWORLD.COM – Emilia Clarke’s mum is “badass” and helped her channel the part of ‘Sarach Connor’ in the new ‘Terminator Genisys’ movie.

The 28-year-old revealed that her mum was a big influence on her growing up and the star feels lucky to have been able to play such strong female characters in her career so far.

In an interview with Marie Claire magazine she said: “It’s funny to me to talk about strong, independent women because I’ve got a really badass mum, so I’ve grown up thinking that women weren’t anything other than absolutely equal to men.” She added: “My career so far has been all about playing strong women.”

The ‘Mother of Dragons’ as she is known in the smash-hit series ‘Game of Thrones’, confessed that she really doesn’t want to “f**k up” the role of Sarah Connor and is terrified of being ripped apart by the franchise’s legion of fans if she doesn’t do the character justice.

She said: “You just can’t f**k it up. There’s a million billion boy fan-boys who will literally pull my head off if I do.”

However the star revealed that she was determined to put her stamp on the character.

She added: “I am not playing a copycat – her back story has changed and I’ve got to put my own spin on it.” (source)

MARIE CLAIRE UK – Emilia Clarke has revealed exclusively to Marie Claire why she turned down the role of Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey. In her cover interview in the July 2015 issue, the Game of Thrones star says she feared she would be typecast if she accepted the role in Fifty Shades of Grey because of her nude scenes in Game of Thrones.

‘I really wanted to work with [Fifty Shades director] Sam Taylor-Johnson because she’s fucking amazing. But there is a huge amount of nudity in the film,’ she explains. ‘I’ll never say, “I’m never doing nudity” because I’ve already done it, but I thought I might get stuck in a pigeonhole that I would have struggled to get out of.’

Dressed to kill in our July cover shoot, Emilia also talks about the epic film role that will further help distance herself from playing Daenerys, Mother of Dragons in the hit Sky Atlantic TV show. She’ll play Sarah Connor (a role originally played by Linda Hamilton) in summer blockbuster, Terminator Genisys. In preparation she did hours of weightlifting every day.

‘Those fucking guns are super heavy,’ she recalls. ‘You’re running with them a lot of the time, and I needed to keep up with/be better than the boys. I needed to know what to do to have Arnold go: [adopting Arnie accent] “very nice”. That was my goal.’

On having her body scrutinized: ‘I remember when everything first kicked off, I Googled myself. You just do, it’s instinct. But never again,’ she adds. ‘It just takes that one person who says: “She’s a fat bitch,” and you’re like: “I’m a fat bitch!”

Despite being linked to Terminator Genisys co-star Jai Courtney, Emilia admits her nomadic existence makes romantic relationships ‘absolutely impossible’.

‘I’m soppy and I do like to believe that when the right person comes along, it will work, because you want to make it work. Everyone else seems to manage it.’

VOGUE UK – EMILIA CLARKE covers the May issue of British Vogue, marking the 28-year-old’s debut on home turf. Inside the issue, the Game of Thrones actress reveals all, including her parents’ reaction to her becoming an actress, and what it’s like returning for season five as one of TV’s most famous heroines.

“I went back to Game of Thrones and it was like coming home. Just the smell of the hotel in Belfast made me feel safe,” she revealed. “I told myself, forget the big game plan; all I want is to do jobs that make me happy.”

She has, however had to be careful what her parents see of her most famous role – Game of Thrones isn’t exactly known for being tame.

“When I first read the scripts, I was on holiday with my family. I told my dad, you’re not going to be able to watch the first five episodes.” (source)

PEOPLE.COM – She’s got a British accent in real life and speaks fluent Dothraki as Daenerys Targaryan on Game of Thrones, but these days Emilia Clarke is working on a more American sound.

Gearing up to star in the upcoming movie prequel Terminator Genisys, to out this summer, Clarke says she’s not new to the popular franchise.

“I was absolutely a fan. I watched Terminator growing up,” Clarke told PEOPLE at this week’s Game of Thrones Season 5 premiere in San Francisco.

So how is her Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonation? “Very good,” she said lowering her brow and mimicking the actor’s low, Austrian intonation. Though a starring role in 50 Shades of Grey didn’t interest her, with this project, “It’s been an absolute dream come true getting to play with an icon,” she said.

As for what awaits her dragon-loving character on Thrones this season, “She’s getting ready for the iron throne,” Clarke told reporters. “She’s trying to find the right balance of good and evil, you need both to be a leader.”
