Goldderby recently released a brand new – and long! – interview with our Emilia. It’s a very good and informative interview, which all Emilia fans should check out for sure!

Epic fantasy drama “Game of Thrones” could conquer all at the Emmys this year. Not only is it a ratings powerhouse for paycaster HBO, having been renewed after its first episode aired, it has also become a critics’ darling with bids from both the Broadcast Television Journalists Assn. and the Television Critics Assn. last week. When Emmy nominations are announced on July 14, some of the show’s sprawling cast may net nominations.

Arguably the break-out star of the show is relative unknown Emilia Clarke, as Daenerys Targaryen, who starts out as an innocent child bride and over the 10 episodes of the first season emerges as the formidable warrior queen of the Dothraki people.

“It’s a bit of a whirlwind” Clarke admits to GoldDerby. “I kept asking David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] if they weren’t joking,” when told she had the role. On her character’s remarkable journey over the course of the season, the actress reveals it paralleled her own personal journey. “It does in a way reflect what it is that I have been going through as well as I only recently came out of drama school.”

While learning the Dothraki language was “really difficult” working alongside her TV lover Jason Momoa (as Khal Drogo) was “incredibly easy … with Jason, there’s no ‘breaking the ice,’ it’s broken before you’ve even met him; he’s such an incredible energy … the first time he ever met he he rugby tackled me to the ground, and that was kind of like our introduction!”

As far as her Emmy chances, it would not be a complete shocker if Clarke broke through with a nomination, as these kudos have recognized relative unknowns in breakout hits. Back in 2004, newcomer Amber Tamblyn (“Joan of Arcadia”) surprised many when she reaped a Drama Actress nod over formidable competition, along with a Drama Series nod for her fantasy show.
